Queering participatory design for urban public spaces

Valentina Ferrari is a PhD candidate in Design at Politecnico di Milano and member of POLIMI DESIS Lab, an international research group focused on Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability. Her research explores how queer, intersectional, and feminist perspectives can inform participatory design practices in urban public spaces. She is a collaborator on “The Queer City” project, funded by Fondazione di Comunità Milano. She currently tutors the “Temporary and Inclusive Urban Solutions” elective course at the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano with a focus on “The Queer City.” She has been tutoring in the Master’s program in Product-Service-System Design at Politecnico di Milano’s School of Design, supporting the Final Studio on “Transforming Cities”. Previously, she tutored in the POLI.DESIGN master’s program “Design for Food”. She collaborated with Off Campus Nolo, a neighborhood living lab in Milan, contributing to the “Situated Vocabulary” project, a hyper-local participatory conversational platform, and the “SOSpesa” project, a neighborhood initiative aimed at food recovery and redistribution to fight food insecurity.
