About
Urbinary is a dissemination platform – centred around the creation and structuring of a podcast – developed by a diverse team of students, alumni, PhD Candidates and early career researchers from the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies and the Design Department at the Politecnico di Milano.
The title Urbinary tries to encapsulate this message by being composed of three main words: dictionary, urban, and ordinary. The combination of these three words helps with the creation of a common understanding of the urban, in a sort of dictionary, for the ordinary aspects of our daily experiences.
The podcast focuses on disseminating urban studies and aims to bridge the gap between the academic community and a broader audience that, while interested in urban studies, does not necessarily engage with academic research. The mission of the podcast is to democratise urban studies by selecting and addressing innovative research topics that reflect the interests of the younger researchers at the Politecnico. Additionally, it strives to develop inclusive languages and discussion practices that can create new networks of discourse around complex research subjects.
Urbinary is a space for inquiry and experimentation, a place to unpack habitual investigative approaches and put them in dialogue with voices and stories traditionally distant from academia. It also serves as a platform for the younger voices of the Department, offering them the opportunity to test and showcase their interests, presenting them to Politecnico as innovative research paths worthy of interest and recognition.
