Embracing territorial complexity for integrative planning processes

Antonio José Salvador is an architect and urbanist with degrees from the University of Notre Dame in the United States and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Urban Planning, Design, and Policy at Politecnico di Milano, within the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU). His research focuses on the protection, planning, and management of peri-urban agricultural spaces in Milan, Barcelona, and the Ruhr Metropolis, exploring socio-ecological transitions in territories and communities toward sustainable local food systems.

With over 15 years of experience as an architect and urban planner, he has worked on diverse projects worldwide. In 2013, he founded an architecture and urban planning practice in Ecuador. Between 2016 and 2019, he served at the Metropolitan Institute of Urban Planning in Quito, leading various initiatives under the Quito 2040 Vision framework.

Antonio has also contributed to academia as a lecturer in architecture, urban design and planning at Universidad San Francisco de Quito and Politecnico di Milano. He has authored several publications on socio-spatial processes in rural contexts, agrarian and cultural landscapes, and tools for public space design.
